Nepali village lady listening to national believers

BUILDING BRIDGES

In Nepal, during May we experienced strikes and instability leading up the expiration of the current constitution on May 28th. We are unsure what this month and beyond will bring. Although we don’t anticipate any danger to our team, do pray that God will raise up Nepali leaders who will govern justly and uphold the freedom of the Church in Nepal.

The old woman was obviously very sick. Her daughter said she had a heart condition, bad lungs, and swollen joints. An expression of pain and despair was clearly etched on the old lady’s face. She had given up all hope of ever being healthy again. Her family believed that her sickness was the inevitable result of bad karma and offered no compassion or comfort. The woman had been to a clinic, but the medicine had little effect.

A group of Nepali and international team members sat down next to the old woman and told her “Aamaa – mother – Jesus wants to give your soul new life, and he can give your body new life too. Because Jesus loves you, we love you, and want to pray to Jesus for you.”

She nodded her consent, so they laid hands on her and prayed for her soul and for her healing. When they finished, tears were spilling out of her eyes. The team gave her daughter a book, which she agreed to read to her mother. Such opportunities to share Jesus’ love with the people of Nepal are precious.
