Earthquake leaves dozens dead or missing
Philippines | OM International
On 6 February 2012, a 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Negros Island (Philippines) at a depth of 20km and was followed by a series of aftershocks. Dozens of people were left dead or missing. In partnership with several Evangelical churches, OM Philippines distributed relief goods to over 200 families in an area where the need was the greatest. A week later, another relief operation was conducted in a village previously unreached by government relief operations.
The OM team in Cebu (Philippines) is organising a youth camp with youth leaders from different churches affected by the earthquake. Second-hand clothes from the OM ship will be distributed during the camp, and two teams will be sent to the Negros Island to work in Dumaguete and Guihulngan (centre of the earthquake area). In addition, OM Philippines is hoping to help 100 families with housing materials in Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Negros Oriental. Praise God for the families supported immediately after the earthquake and for on-going efforts to help 100 families rebuild their lives on Negros Island. Pray that the youth camp in the earthquake area will bring hope to children devastated by recent events.
