The hands of Jesus
South Africa | OM International
When Nonyameko* tested positive for HIV, she was shocked and confused. Alma Leonard, leader of AIDS Hope in Pretoria, went to visit Nonyameko and found her crying. Alma was given permission to pray and asked Jesus to intervene. She prayed for peace, love and acceptance for Nonyameko. Afterward, Nonyameko felt able to share openly.
A few weeks later Nonyameko visited the AIDS Hope centre, Meetse a Bophelo (Fountain of Life), and spent time in the prayer garden. “I have hope now,” she quietly shared with Alma. “These hands catching the water in the fountain remind me of how Jesus came that day when you prayed for me; His hands covered my heart and I could feel His peace!”
Nonyameko’s life is now marked by hope. She has disclosed her status to family and is living a life of joy and love. Praise God for Nonyameko's life. Please pray for the AIDS Hope team as they seek to partner with a local hospice to bring hope to more living with HIV. The team is also looking to buy a house to serve as a safe place to care and counsel people living with HIV. Please pray for wisdom in these decisions.
AIDS Hope responds holistically to the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa by empowering the church, championing good life choices, partnering with like-minded ministries and sharing the hope that is in Christ. Recently the ministry relocated to Mamelodi, a township near Pretoria, to provide better care for orphans, vulnerable children and people with HIV.
