Panama Easter Campaign 2008

ENGLISH

In March, approximately 260 Latin Americans from Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador gathered the week before Easter in Volcan, Panama for Central America’s annual outreach campaign, this year called, “Amo Panama 2008: Explota tus Dones para Cristo” (Love Panama 2008: Explode and Develop your Gifts for Christ). In addition, a medical team of 19 from the United States joined to help with basic health needs in the area.

The campaigners, ages ranging from mid-teen to over 50, spent the first three days in seminars led by OM minister and speaker Gareth Bolton. They learned about hearing and responding to God’s call to missions, as well as how to deepen their relationship with Christ. During this time, groups also attended workshops on how to share the Gospel using drama, art, rope, mimes and clowns.

The following three days, campaigners were divided into 22 international groups of varying sizes and paired with local churches to conduct workshops on evangelism. The groups then put what they learned into practise by reaching out to the local people. Some stayed within urban areas and did door-to-door evangelism, while others traversed into harder-to-reach parts, meeting and sharing with indigenous tribes and unreached groups.

At the end of the week, a reported 96 reconciliations and approximately 1,175 new decisions were made for Christ—evidence of the fruit of God’s great work through His people. Also, during the six days of the campaign the medical team treated over 1,100 people around the Chiriqui province.

Pray for increased vision and call to missions for those who attended the campaign. Pray for follow-up with the people who were reached with the Gospel for the first time. Pray also for partnership between OM and churches in Panama, that strong relationships can develop and the vision of missions will spread to Christians throughout the country.
