Creative arts in the park of Bosnia
Bosnia & Hercegovina | OM International
20 young people from America, Canada and England spent 2 weeks of their summer holiday doing a Creative Arts outreach in Bihac, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Some of them were dancers, others artists, and others musicians and actors. The OM-team in Bihac received permission to use the open space in the town park for our programs. We were there, morning and evening for a whole week, proclaiming the love of Jesus through the gifts He had given us. While some were dancing or performing dramas, others talked with the observers and handed out literature. The artists drew portraits of people; the photographers took photos and later handed them out as gifts to the people. Constantly people came by to watch our programs; many of them came back more than once. At the end of almost every dance or drama somebody explained the message of it and combined it with a truth about Jesus.
One day we were surprised to see the whole group of kids from the nearby kindergarten coming to our program! The teachers had seen “something interesting” happening and decided to bring the kids there. They ended up coming three days in a row! We had a 3-part puppet show for them and the kids could help by first making their own little puppets that were used in the drama. They liked it a lot!
The other day we saw two policemen coming by and staying to watch. And instead of giving us problems for speaking about Jesus, they stayed and watched the whole thing and came back the next day too. One man had come to them to complain about having a religious program in a public place. They listened to him, but at the end did not do anything. Well, it turned out that these two policemen were themselves from a Catholic background, so they were glad for what we were doing in their town!
At the end of the week we were all tired but satisfied. It was a tremendous opportunity of sowing God’s Word in this town. Most people here have never heard about the love of Jesus nor held a Bible in their hands. We are so thankful to God for sending all these people to help us. And we can’t praise Him enough for the freedom and favor that He has granted to us in this town!
