Changed Campers

Kosovo | OM International

Camp BuddiesMost international workers normally have a group of people that like to be around them, sometimes only for the newness and excitement of a different culture.

One such young man is Alban. He has been around the Christian community in Peja for a few years now. When one of the OM workers first met this eighteen-year-old, he was lazy, apathetic about life, and seeking fun. This past summer he attended a leadership camp for a week. It was a camp for all the organisations in Peja to send their most mature youth to, to learn about Jesus as the greatest servant leader of all time. One of the OM workers was asked to lead a small, discussion group. Alban was in her group. What happened during this week was surprising for all the camp leaders. Alban, who still isn’t a professing believer, took a sort of leadership role in his group. While the other boys were being rowdy and distracting, he was really searching his heart for answers and listening to the lessons attentively. The weeks following that camp found him staying up in that place to help serve for the following camps with the younger children. He became a vital leader for these kids, often rising to do whatever needed to be done. Many times the camp leaders have sat around and marvelled at the change that has taken place inside his heart.

And while I would love to end the story here, it wouldn’t be the reality of the situation. This past week Alban has been talking about paying someone to do his senior school project for him (along with other struggles in different areas). He’s wrestling and fighting hard. God is pursuing his heart, but it is a long process. Pray for Alban and others who find themselves in that place!
