Actions Speak Louder than Words
Albania | OM International
Lushnje, Albania. Summertime. A short term team of ten people arrived from Florida to bring Good News to the Albanian people. They met up with local OMers to work with them and local believers.
First week. Outreach. They began their trip with visits to a local village called Dushk. The first two days, the plan was to do house visits to talk to people about Jesus and then to invite them to a special service the following Friday.
Splitting into groups of three or four with a translator, they headed out from their meeting point, not knowing what to expect. A group entered an Albanian family's home, was greeted warmly, then continued inside to the living room area. While talking over Turkish coffee and sweets provided by the family, an unexpected neighbor came to the house. The feeling in the house changed as she stated several times that she was Muslim and obviously not interested in hearing about what the group was trying to share. She stayed during the visit and was successful at being a very big distraction, trying to make loud noises and things like that.
A little disappointed, the group left afterwards and waited for Friday to see if the family would come. Friday came. No sign of the family, but to their surprise, the distracting neighbour instead.
After sharing a testimony, the team prepared a drama. The drama was a picture of God creating mankind, with Satan coming to distract man from God and severing the relationship. He tried hard to get man's focus off of God and onto himself. Then, at the end, Jesus comes to save mankind.
After the service, the neighbour approached to a team member and asked them to come to her house for a visit! She said the drama had impacted her, that she had understood what it meant without interpretation, and that she would like to hear more about Jesus!
