Over 30 teenagers and their leaders had made the lengthy journey from South Korea to Albania, for a week of outreach activity in the towns and villages where OM Albania works. The final event was visiting a church in Tirana, the capital of Albania. A local OM worker watched as Ji aged 17, made her way onto the platform after the sermon, and started to sing – something that the team had not planned. As Ji sang, her voice broke with emotion and tears streamed down her face – so much so she could not continue.
The OMer describes what happened next. “I asked Ji why she was crying. She told me how she had come on the outreach with huge expectations of ‘doing something great for God’, especially as other people had raised the finances for her to travel. But in reality, once she had got here, she hadn’t felt like doing anything ‘great’, and felt guilty for not touching more lives. So Ji had asked to sing after the sermon – to do at least one special thing for God. But her emotions had defeated her attempt! I prayed with Ji, thanking God for sending her to Albania, and asking Him to show her the reason why.”
The next morning, Ji approached the OMer and gave her a letter. “That letter was full of joy!” recalls the OMer. “Ji wrote that God had met her in a new way, and had given her a vision for future service through worship ministry. She realised too what a good opportunity this outreach had been to deepen relationships with the other girls in her group. This episode has reminded us how God meets people who come on outreach and works in their hearts, whilst sharing the Gospel!”
