Against a backdrop of political and economical complications

Malaysia | OM International

Against a backdrop of political and economical complications, OM continues to mobilise for missions. While declining value of the currency - Ringgit - and expulsion of the Deputy Prime Minister from office might have caused alarm, work goes on as usual for the OM team. The currency slide, however, has put a strain on finances. OEWe lost about RM12,000 in past months due to poor exchange rates, said field leader Daniel Ho. (The Ringgit has since been fixed at 3.80 to the US dollar). This has affected fund transfers to OMers abroad. Currently Malaysia has 44 individuals overseas, most of whom are on board the Ships. With three percent Evangelicals in the nation, this country needs to gain a stronger vision for missions. Malaysia is currently hosting the 16th Commonwealth Games in its capital Kuala Lumpur, the first Asian city to do so. The event also provides outreach opportunities for foreign and local groups. Pray:

  1. For recovery of the economy.
  2. Againstpossible violence in the country, after drastic changes in the political arena.
  3. For extra help at the OM office, presently manned by two.
