As the Outreach began on the Sunday, the OM team led the evening service, Melody from Nigeria preached while the group led worship. We had a special song from Nigeria. After the evening service we went out for a prayer walk around the church.
Monday was a day to connect with the church members as we joined them for their annual Easter Monday outing. They took us to Coombe Abbey where we had a walk in the woods, enjoyed our lunch in the open air and learned how to play cricket after a little game of football…
Tuesday afternoon we split in to four different groups. One group going to a park and inviting people, another going tracting, one group doing home visits and another visiting a hospital. In the evening we went out with Paul Atkin into Birmingham city centre to chat to the homeless and give them some coffee and tea. This we repeated on Wednesday when we also handed out food.
From Wednesday to Saturday morning we enjoyed leading a Kids’ holiday club. A small group of kids came the first two mornings and this increased to 13 children on Saturday. We needed to run the whole kids’ club and we were able to use all our creative juices to prepare and lead these few mornings sharing with the kids the amazing love of our heavenly Father and His son Jesus!!!
Friday afternoon we were in the local park where we played football with the kids and painted their faces. We gave them balloon animals and invited them to come to the last day of the kids’ club and the social event in the evening. We had great fun!!! It was great to see how about 30 or so of the people we met in the park showed up the same evening at church for the social event where we explained the Gospel plain and clear!!!
We finished the second Sunday by leading the morning service. Seven people shared testimonies of how God had changed and challenged them, of which two were church members who were involved with us the whole week. Carol stepped out of her comfort zone and led the worship, we showed a little video about the week in order that the church could see what had been done and used a drama to share on unity, after which Melody preached on unity.
"I have felt challenged this week to deepen my faith, step out of my comfort zone and do things for God that I never thought I could do. My relationship with God has been deepened and I believe I have grown more over this week than other time recently. I will go away from this outreach and continue to seek God's will for my future involvement and I definitely feel that my experience this week has helped me to gain valuable experience. Therefore, overall I feel that this experience has re-affirmed God's calling for me to His work and I will continue to seek His will." Joe Grew, UK
"I had always thought that mission work is tough and hard to survive. Indeed, I was wrong. God can really provide your physical needs, for your outreach programme, if He has chosen you to do a particular outreach. My relationship with God has always been good, although I find it difficult to have a consistent relationship with God. Coming to this OM Outreach helped me to have a consistent relationship with Him”. Melissa Lan, Singapore
"We invited some children in the park to the Kids’ Club. We gave them balloons and told them about the face painting and games. They convinced their parents to let them come. I was so happy that the children were so open and it was easy to invite them to come to the church. I hope they will continue coming”. Corinna Haffelder, Germany
"It was such a blessing - just to see God's work in Birmingham. To work together as an international team with the church. It's possible to have mission work in Europe”! Valerie Kuehl, Germany
