A house church begins

OM International

For many years we have been discovering seekers in Turkey by placing adverts for a Bible Correspondence Course in national newspapers. Our visits to receptive contacts can take us to provinces many kilometres away from our office in Istanbul; they can take us to cities where there is no church.

One day, while we were actually on the road travelling to the city of Amasya, a call came from the BCC office telling us that a fellow by the name of Chelebi was very interested. When I asked where he was from I was told he was from Amasya - the very place we were going. As we got nearer our destination I called Chelebi who was excited to meet us and welcomed us joyfully when we arrived. It wasn't long before he came to true faith in Jesus and began studying the Bible. Every time we visit him he invites people over to hear the gospel. Until now, around 30 people have heard the good news in this way. His wife has also accepted Jesus and last month they were both baptized. We continue to visit them and a small meeting has started in their home.

Turkey :: Each year on 23 April thousands of people flock to St. George’s Orthodox Church on Buyukada, or Big Island, off the coast of Istanbul. Pilgrims trail cotton behind them as they climb, in hopes that if their thread reaches the top unbroken God will hear their prayers.
