Information vs. Injustice
OM International
“Do you think sex workers are there by choice?” This was the beginning of a conversation about human trafficking. One OM team is working in Pretoria’s inner city to educate people about this topic. Their hope is that through this ministry they will prevent human trafficking during the World Cup. Trafficking people is the second most common crime in the world, after drug trafficking. Many of these victims are forced into slavery or sex work. Experts say that thousands of people have already been trafficked into South Africa in anticipation of the World Cup.The OM team is spending time in a city park and starting conversations with young people there, to challenge their ideas. After hearing the ways people are tricked into believing that they are being given a job, one woman realized that her friend may be in danger. The team was able to give her advice and tell her what questions to ask the potential employer. Spiritual conversations have also taken place as the team interacts with people in the community. During a chat in the park, they were able to lead one woman to Christ.
