I have red hair, which means that people in Nepal notice me and are always asking questions. Sometimes this can be wearing on me, but sometimes it is a wonderful opportunity to share about my faith. One day I entered a small pharmacy shop and, as usual, the shopkeeper asked me where I come from and what I am doing here. Then he asked me what I am going to do when I return to Switzerland, my home country. I said I will go to a school to become a social worker. He was confused – why would people in Switzerland need help? I had to explain that even though people in Switzerland have money, money doesn’t make them happy.

The shopkeeper really wanted to know more because people in Nepal all search to have money because they believe it’s the way to happiness. In answering his questions I shared my faith in Jesus and how He gives me great joy. With Jesus I can experience real freedom and not be under the fear of rituals because He paid for everything on the cross. The shopkeeper was so hungry and thirsty to understand. He told me that he would like to know more about what it means to have faith in God. At that time I had no tracts with me, but I promised that I would come back.

A few hours later I returned with a friend and this time the shopkeeper’s wife was also there. We talked all together and I gave a tract to each of them. The man said, “Oh, this is little, that’s good. I will start with this and later you give me a bigger one, okay?”
