Without Our Attempts

by Kaitlynn Kopeski

Todd* is an evangelist in the Middle East. He spends most of his days distributing literature, and approaching people trying to initiate conversations about Jesus.

Late one night, as Todd walked into his apartment building, a man approached him. The man's name was Nawfal* and he was looking for an American missionary.

Todd was not the missionary Nawfal was looking for, but nevertheless he invited Nawfal in and the two began to talk. Nawfal's grandfather converted to Islam under a death threat, so his whole family grew up Muslim. Todd shared his testimony with Nawfal and afterwards Nawfal came to every Bible study Todd held.

“He would ask tons of questions,” Todd said about Nawfal.

Three weeks after their initial meeting Nawfal decided to give his life to Jesus and was baptized in a local church. Nawfal was so excited that he asked Todd to talk with his son, who lived in Europe. Todd began to Skype with Nawfal's son and soon he also gave his life to Jesus and was baptized in Europe.

This story shows that God works even “without our attempts,” Todd said. “What a trophy that is.”
