Denis and Gisela Coonan

Ireland | OM International

Denis and Gisela Coonan are thankful for the help they received from OM teams serving in Ireland.  Gisela writes:

In about 1981, we had the first OM team in Clonmel Co. Tipperary, led by Phil Roberts from England. One team member from Germany (Erika) had invited me to a meeting (I am German married to an Irish man).

My husband was also invited on a Sunday and afterwards for a meal. There was a Chinese girl on the team and as my husband likes Chinese food he went only for the food! But God had other plans and he got saved that morning!

For me it was a longer journey. I had given my life to the Lord at a Billy Graham crusade in Stuttgart Germany (aged 16) but became somewhat “a prodigal”. Conviction started in my life just as the team put leaflets in the door and I got quite annoyed! But as I went to the first bible study I knew instantly that was it! I needed God back in my life.

The next team arrived and I had some bible studies with Cathy from Australia. I had 101 questions - she was patient, and eventually God spoke to me in a dream on Rom. 8:16. I knew it was His mercy that called me back. A fellowship started in our town.  With another couple, we were the start of God’s work in Clonmel.  Many changes since then, one more team and Susan from USA became my mentor.

God has been faithful.  Today my husband and I are pastoring “Word of Life” church in Clonmel. We are a spirit filled church; the guiding theme the Lord put on our hearts is Isaiah 61 - the gospel for the broken-hearted. It all started with OM. Men and women who were obedient to the Lord. We are thankful for all the time and help we received and now by His grace we are ready to extend it to others.
