On Saturdays afternoon Save Ishmael runs a book table in
Parma (North of Italy), along with a local church. Simona, who’s in charge of it, had a couple of interesting conversations lately. Few Saturdays ago she spoke to Simon, an Italian guy, proud of his atheism. He was introduced to the team three years ago, by one of his colleagues who said: “Here is Simon! Now it is your turn to evangelise him, as I gave up, ‘cos he doesn’t want to understand!!! Maybe you can do a better job!”
Since then he always likes to stop and have a chat, always about “God”. That afternoon he was teasing Simona “You know, I like to instil doubts in those who say they believe in God!” “Well” she replied “I like it, because you’ll only make my faith stronger”. By the end of the conversation he said “I cannot believe in Christianity. The salvation plan is too easy. If God wanted to save man He would have given birth to a much more complicated one”.
The following Saturday, Faisal came at the book table. Faisal is a Tunisian guy that likes to discuss. After a long conversation he said to Simona quite upset “How can I believe in what you are saying! Can you realize that everything is so complicate and incomprehensible? God is much simpler! You can understand Him easily, without being a genius!”
Well, it is quite shocking at the beginning to have these two different reactions like this… then you realise that it is only because man cannot understand spiritual things with his own rationality! May the Lord works in those we meet!
