Pat Tracy, International Speaker
The Tracys moved to Westerville and Quest Community Church (then New Albany Christian Church) in April 2002 after serving on board MV LOGOS II. They are blessed with two older sons and their wives, Chris & Lydia (living in Gurnee, IL, supporting OM Ships IT) and Brett & Christy (living in Houston, working worldwide in OM’s “Young-Hope” outreach to teens). Todd is in his second year of studies at Miami University of Ohio.
Lisa & Pat met in the Navy, as Lisa (a Navy Nurse) and Pat (a ship’s officer) were stationed together at Great Lakes Naval Training Center during the blizzard of ’79; they married in January 1980. Lisa stepped into the Naval Reserve just before Chris was born, and served until completion of her active-duty callup for the 1991 Gulf War. Pat remained on active duty until 1996, when he retired and the family joined OM.
Since Pat spent his Navy career in ships, the Lord called them to OM’s ship ministry. A previous assignment to the Philippines prepared the family for service in MV DOULOS, in Asia and the Pacific Islands. “Our time in DOULOS was great experience for our older boys, giving them a first-hand look at the way the rest of the world lives, and showing the need for the transforming power of God’s love,” their parents said. As a result, not only have Pat, Lisa & Todd been back to DOULOS in Sri Lanka (post-tsunami) and in MV LOGOS II (in Northern Europe, UK and the Caribbean), but Chris has spent several months helping to fix computer systems for the ships and other OM teams around the world, and Brett has completed a two-year tour of his own aboard DOULOS; Brett & Christy are leaders in Teen Street, OM’s international teen conference, having served in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Uruguay in recent years. In October 2006, Lisa participated in a Medical mission to the Dalit people in southern India.
Since August 2002, the Tracys have been part of the Special Projects team. These partnerships with OM founder George Verwer and field workers from many agencies range from literature publishing & distribution, to aid (particularly on the HIV/AIDS front), networking to bring people and projects with similar aims together to serve God in developing new businesses and helping to encourage local Christian leaders. This assignment keeps Pat “on the road” around the world about 120 days/year, and is a humbling and stretching one. It gives him the opportunity to carry out ACTS 1:8 in an unique way: “I get to see what God is doing around the world, then come back and testify to what I’ve seen. Hopefully this will encourage God’s people that He is in fact working, and that there is a place for each person to make a meaningful contribution. After all, if God can use a sailor, He can use anybody!” To keep his Captain’s license active, Pat also takes a turn relieving aboard OM Ships from time-to-time; he has been privileged to sail as Captain in LOGOS-II, DOULOS, and most recently aboard MV LOGOS HOPE from April-August of 2011, and February 2012. He has also volunteered as Missions Pastor at Quest Community Church in Westerville, Ohio.
