Festival of Smiles - Indigenous Christmas Outreach: Costa Rica

Reaching the indigenous of Costa Rica with the love of Jesus at Christmastime through children's programs and gift distribution.

Break out of your comfort zone to teach the true meaning of Christmas to children and families living in the mountainous indigenous areas of Costa Rica. Through gifts, clothes, and food distribution, you will be part of sharing the gift of Jesus to hundreds in communities of intense socio-economic and spiritual poverty. Participate in children’s programs including songs, dramas, clowns and much more. The smiles and laughter you see will stick in your memory as you know that you have impacted the lives of hundreds of worldly-forgotten children.

Ministry Details

From the capital of San Jose we will travel 6 hours by bus to Talamanca, an indigenous community. Participants will travel by foot once there, bringing wrapped gifts, clothes and food to impoverished people. Participants spend a few days putting on fun programs aimed at children and their families, bringing the joy of Christmas to a people often overlooked and forgotten. Throughout all these activities the Gospel and the love of Christ will be shared.

Participant Profile

Participants should have an open heart and be ready to serve. Participants must be physically able to travel by bus and foot (considerable distances in wet weather).

Sleeping on the floor in a local church.

100% Costa Rican!

Travel:

Fly in/out of San Jose, Costa Rica (airport code SJO). There will be someone from our team with an OMCR t-shirt or sign waiting for you outside.
Travel within the country will be by bus.

Health:

You are responsible for obtaining International Travel Health Insurance.
Must be able-bodied for travel and hiking, carrying ministry supplies. General vaccines up-to-date.

Visa:

You are required for investigating if a travel visa is required by your country. We will be happy to provide a letter of invitation if needed.
