Hope for Somalia

Dagahaley1Abdi is a single father who started off from his village and walked for more than two weeks through the desert to get help. He had started with three children, but his eight-year-old son got too tired and was left along the way.  Abdi arrived carrying the youngest, with one other surviving child alongside.  The family had gotten some liquid drinking from plants along the way. This coughing father does not know what happened to his son who was left behind.

Starting off with six children, another family arrived with only two daughters. The four boys, aged 13-18, were forced at gun point to stay in Somalia and join Al-Shabab, an extremist militant group. This is a common danger survivors have faced, as well as kidnappings and robbery.

One very weak mother, Amina, told a camp worker that her mother had turned blind due to lack of nourishment. When the worker asked to see her, Amina got very shy and said no, because the rags she was wearing they shared together.  Neither had proper clothing. They arrived with nothing, not even clothes.

Another family lost their father to starvation before they could get to the camp.  The remaining family members had survived the long walk by eating the flesh of a dead cow they found. The animal had been dead a long time, but they ate some anyway, taking more pieces with them for the trip.

In camp, the security situation is still very fragile and dangerous, as there are so many people still needing nourishment.  Thank you for praying for the team there and thank you for partnering with them to feed starving and grieving families in Somalia.
