What ministry does OM USA do in the US?
OM USA exists to mobilize Americans to pray, give, go and grow in missions and to help facilitate the ministry of OM around the world. We desire to target our resources (people, prayers and funding) toward the least reached areas of the world. Most of the positions at OM USA are involved in supporting OM missionaries overseas or mobilizing the American Church into missions.
What is working at OM USA like?
OM USA is composed of God-loving people from all over the world. Most of us work in an office environment and are involved in supportive and administrative roles.
As a team, we desire to see each person serving in an area about which he is passionate. We have several departments that are focused on using the arts in missions. Other departments are involved in mobilizing the American Church into missions. Still others are helping raise and track finances for overseas ministry. While each department is uniquely engaged, we all desire to see the Gospel given to the least reached around the world.
Relationships are important to us! At OM USA, we consider our team to be a large family, and we make time to grow deeper together. Weekly team devotions are led by OM speakers or invited guests. Weekly prayer meetings shed light on needs around the world. Fun events and meals for the entire team (including spouses and children) also take place on a regular basis.
Does OM USA pay a salary?
Most of the positions at OM USA do not pay a salary. We generally ask each person on staff to raise his/her own support to cover their salary, insurance, and other financial needs.
There are a few paid positions within the OM USA office. These are generally limited to support service positions, and the pay ranges from $7-$10/hour.
Why do I need to raise support?
OM is a faith-based mission agency, and 99% of people in OM raise support-including our president! We want to allow other people the opportunity to be involved in advancing God’s Kingdom through giving to someone they personally know. Raising support is an incredible blessing as we see God work through others to supply for our needs.
How do I raise support?
Building a support team can be a challenging and stretching experience. If you are approved to join the OM USA staff, we will provide you with training and resources (books, DVDs, handouts, etc) on how to do it! We also provide assistance throughout the support-raising process.
How much support do I need?
Each person/family working in OM USA has unique financial needs and goals for now and for the future. For those in the process of joining our staff, we will work with you to develop a realistic and manageable monthly budget, providing a moderate standard of living in the United States.
Who does OM USA accept?
OM is composed of people from many national, ethnic and denominational backgrounds. We are looking for faithful, not perfect, followers of Jesus who desire to join with others in reaching the unreached around the world.
Those wanting to join OM USA should meet these requirements:
- Be a follower of Jesus for at least one year
- Have a growing relationship with Jesus
- Be actively involved in a local church
- Agree with OM’s Docrinal Statement
- Willing to trust God to provide for your financial needs by raising support
- Be at least 18 years old, or turning 18 within six months of completing the application
- Living alcohol and drug free for at least one year and tobacco free for at least six months
What is the application process?
Starting the application process is simple and begins with our online application.It takes about 45 minutes to complete and is a great way for you to get to know some of the people at OM, and for us to get to know you. Filling out this application does not commit you to joining the OM USA team. It is simply the first step in the process of us getting to know one another.
What do I do if I have debt?
Debt from student loans is allowed. While you are working here at OM USA, you are still responsible for meeting the minimum payments on your loan. We encourage you to find a friend or family member to pay this minimum amount on your behalf as part of your support team. We are happy to give you more information about how this works once you’ve applied.
We encourage those with credit card debt to first pay off their debt before pursuing positions at OM USA.
