Turning Point - Lights of London - Option 1: United Kingdom

Taking a stand to make a difference, Lights of London will reach Muslims in London. You can be a part in bringing the Good News of Christ to Muslims who may never have the opportunity to hear or read the Gospel in their own country. Our purpose is: “To Mobilise” for outreach to Muslims, “To Train” in missions to Muslims, and “To Church Plant” among Muslims in the UK. With this in mind we believe that ordinary Christians from around the world will make an incredible impact as they share Jesus with Muslims who are visiting or living in London. There are more than 1.8 million Muslims living in London. People from the 10/40 Window have come to London and the Muslim world is at our doorstep! People from countries that are totally closed to the Gospel live in our city and we have the opportunity to openly share the Gospel with them. Outreach opportunities abound in London, so please join us in making use of this great opportunity.

During the Outreach you will receive training, which will equip you in basic Muslim and Christian doctrine. It is centered on the Muslim mindset and how to share the Gospel in a culturally sensitive way! It also includes International Team Life, in which you will have opportunities to cook, clean, pray and worship together! All teams will be living in CHURCHES, which means the accommodation won’t be five stars! OM is based on a ‘learn by doing’ process and you will get plenty of ‘street time’ to put into practice all you have learned. You could do anything from book tables, to street work, to door-to-door, to video distribution, to the famous ‘Speakers Corner’ debate! You will find yourself doing things you never thought you could. Our first priority is to the church plants that we have in London; the Turkish/English church in North London, and the Arabic/English church in Central London. Our strategy and evangelism is based around these church plants, and is the reason for much of what you will do.

Ministry Details

Participants can expect to have training in basic Islamics, and basic Christian doctrine, along with team devotions, different evangelism methods, international team life, and a busy schedule. For the most part, the entire Outreach consists of one full day of classroom training followed by a minimum of six hours of evangelism the following day. Depending on any special church events, this programme may change. A normal day in the Outreach starts with personal time (7-8.30am), which is for quiet time and taking showers, breakfast and etc. After 8:30 a number of things may take place, such as, church, drive to training centre, evangelism, prayer, prepare food, etc. The days vary from a heavy concentration on training or heavy concentration on evangelism. Evening programmes often go late and then there is driving back to the church accommodation after the programme, which can take over 30 minutes. One day off per week. There will be one extra long day per week with an evening prayer meeting; up to 11 or 12pm.

Participant Profile

This is really encouraging to see a variety of people from different nationalities working alongside one another to glorify HIS name. We need anyone who is willing to come and learn! We will take church groups who could take the skills learned back home for further use in their home church. We want university and college groups who can catch a vision for the work amongst the Muslim students and Islamic societies on their campuses! We want individuals who are prepared to be involved in multi-national, cross-cultural teams, who will face long days, church floors and amazing opportunities to share their faith in the one true God! We would like families to know that our short-term campaigns are short, intensive times of ministry and training. We have tight schedules and lots of activities during the day. Therefore it is necessary to explain what we offer so that you can realistically evaluate if this is the right experience for you and your family. If you are interested, please ask for our Family Policy.
