English in Egypt
A local English teacher said, “This is not an ordinary event for us. It doesn’t happen every day in Port Said.” Wessam Elshatawy teaches English in Port Said, Egypt, at the city’s International Language and Computer Center. He had come with students from his elementary class to an “English café” event on the OM ship Logos Hope. The evening included cultural songs and dances from around the world, a quiz and games to help students improve their grasp of the language. Wessam had been in the ship’s book fair when he heard about the English café and decided to bring his students along. “I thought it would break their fear of speaking face to face with people in English. I think it has worked,” he explained, believing that it had been very useful for the students to meet people from different cultures and learn from them. You can support the outreaches of Logos Hope through the links below.
