Psalms of Lament

When Uzbek homes in Kyrgyzstan were burned by Kyrgyz mobs, most of the Uzbek people lost their Qur'ans. Now their hearts are being touched by Christian scriptures. Some have been pointed to the Psalms of lament, in which they find language to express their grief and anger. Psalm 10 speaks very directly into their trauma:

Why, O Lord, do you stand far off? In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak. Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God!

Some Kyrgyz believers received training in trauma counseling, and they have been going into Uzbek neighborhoods apologizing for the atrocities committed by their countrymen. They have been amazed at the spiritual hunger and openness of the once proud Uzbeks. Many are eager to accept gifts of Uzbek New Testaments, as they search for a living word to give comfort and hope. Please pray that many Uzbeks will find Jesus as they search the Scriptures. Pray that in the aftermath of trauma and deep hurt, God will bring His healing to this nation.
