First You Must Die
Kawan was a diligent student of the Qur’an and the Hadith. When a Kurdish friend shared the gospel with him he started to study the Bible as well. He became so confused he didn’t want to read either book any longer. One night he prayed, “Oh God what is the right way?”
Then he heard a voice calling his name, “Kawan, I am Jesus, the One you are seeking.”
The student asked, “What do I need to do?”
Jesus answered, “I want to give you a new heart, but first you must die.” Kawan felt a strange sensation in his body and was afraid.
The Lord said, “Why are you afraid? Just trust me!”
Starting from his feet and moving up to his head, Kawan slowly lost the feeling in his body. He called to his wife to awaken her and told her he was paralyzed and that he must die. She was in shock and wanted to call the neighbors, but Kawan assured her that the Lord was with him. After a while, he came back to life and felt like a new man. His wife was very troubled and told her relatives, who insisted that he see a psychiatrist. He did and the doctor gave him medicine. But while reading through God’s Word, Kawan heard Jesus telling him to put his trust in Him alone.
God is revealing himself in special ways among Kawan’s people group, the Kurds. Please pray for the new Kurdish believers to be discipled, to overcome fear from persecution, and for Kurdish fellowships to grow. Please pray for more local workers to join the ministry.
