An OM worker teaching English in Africa was approached by two men. They said, "We would like to learn English but we don't have money. Can you teach us?" The teacher already had a full class schedule but he knew he should pray about it, so he told them to come back the next day. When they did, the teacher said he would instruct them in English on one condition, that they would also study the Bible together. In this predominately Muslim country, it would be understood if the men rejected his offer, but they agreed. They started learning English along with the Bible.

One day, one of the men came early. "I have to tell you something," he said, just as the other man showed up for the lesson. So they waited until after class and the man revealed, "I had a dream about Jesus being crucified." So the teacher decided to show him the Jesus film. In the scene where Jesus is crucified the man started to cry and said, "That's what I saw in my dream." He asked how to become a believer. The teacher prayed with him and he accepted the Lord right there.

Weeks later, the new believer asked the teacher to test him on what he had memorized from the Bible. To the teacher's amazement, the man began to talk through the entire book of Genesis. In his Islamic culture, it was expected that you memorize the holy book, the Qur'an. So it made sense that he would learn the Bible in the same way. It wasn't even a question to him. Within a few months, this new believer had memorized three quarters of the Bible.

The truth of what he was reading began to sink in and at one point the man asked his teacher, "If I would have died without knowing what I know now, what would have happened? Where would I be?" There was a long knowing pause between them. "You have known me for quite awhile," he continued, "Why didn't you tell me before?" The teacher said, "Well, because I can't openly preach the gospel here."

His friend persisted, "Why did you not tell me before?"

Struck by this question, the teacher realized that no risk was too great to keep someone from going to hell. He completely changed his approach to Muslim ministry and has continued serving his neighbors without fear.
