Signs from God
Crying, a lady named Uzhera told the visiting OM team that she could not take care of her niece. She had recently taken over as the girl's caregiver but found communication difficult because her neice was born deaf. This was especially stressful when her niece cried and Uzhera could not understand what she needed. So OM team leader Paul prayed for this desperate need there in Namibia.
The next day, the team learned that Johan, one of the local guides accompanying the team, knew sign language because his parents were deaf. So for two days, Johan spent time with Uzhera, teaching her the alphabet in sign language. But he knew his time was short there and that Uzhera would need a reference to fall back on after he left. He noticed another team member carried a flip chart so he asked her to draw the signs on the chart. This was no coincidence. God had clearly told this team member to buy these specific sheets of paper in the States before she left. She obeyed, not knowing how valuable that decision would be.
As Uzhera started her lessons, the team learned of another local guide who had been praying for a man in his twenties who was also deaf. Now the guide and his young friend are learning sign language from, Uzhera, who has since surrendered her life to the Lord! Join this team in praising God for His foreknowledge and provision during this outreach. And pray for all the people whose lives God used to make such an impact in the deaf community of a Namibian town.
