Starting a Church
Though Europe is often thought of as a difficult place for evangelism, some have a God-sized vision to take the gospel there.
Shaun Rossi, an OM team member from the US, started United Community Church (UCC) in Finland and has been amazed at the growth he's seen there. Even Finns who consider themselves born again rarely go to church. But they are drawn to UCC. How is that possible in such a secular environment?
Church member Heidi thinks it's probably the good atmosphere, the international flair of the church, and the surrounding community. "It's like Christianity has been here for hundreds of years," she says, "and then along comes an African or Asian who gets really excited about God, the Bible, and going to church! Finns are much more willing to listen to foreigners talking about God because it's so
unexpected, so different."
Pastor Shaun says, "We simply invite people from different religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds together. Somehow multi-ethnical churches are the ones that seem to be growing in Europe.
And that growth is really needed on this continent. We need to love people, plant churches, preach the gospel. Now is the time to act!"
If you have a vision for church planting, see how you might partner with these outreaches.
