Seeing Past the Obvious

“The little boy was using his bike to carry water jugs. What caught my attention was that the bike did not have a seat,” recalls an OM team member in Nepal. “I started a conversation with the boy and walked with him to a bike shop where I wanted to buy him a seat. When I asked the bike shop owner how much a seat would cost, he started to laugh. Looking back at the bike I could see why – it wasn’t just missing a seat. The bike had no chain, no brakes, and no pedals either.

“As I looked at that dilapidated bike I realized how much more than a bike repair this little boy needed. At first I had seen just the most obvious thing that he was missing, but God spoke to me that what he really needed was the hope, peace, forgiveness, and life that are only found in Jesus.

“We fixed the little boy’s bike that afternoon and I went with him to meet his family. It’s the beginning of a friendship that I hope will help lead them to faith in Christ. I praise God for helping me see more than a broken bike with a missing seat.”
