World's Most Persecuted
Some call them the most persecuted people group in the world. Beneath India’s oppressive caste system are the Dalit (pronounced dah-LEET) people. Dalit literally means “untouchable”. One of the more poignant symbols of their position in India is the clay cup. Dalits must drink only from clay cups so that when they are through drinking, the cup can be smashed, protecting others from becoming unclean. But the Dalits are entering a new season. OM India is partnering with a secular educational group to bring schools to the Dalit people. Previously uneducated, Dalits are now seeing an entire generation receive the dignity and freedom of a high school diploma. The first Dalit class in history graduated in February of 2009 and some of these graduates have gone on to college. You can purchase lunches for these school children through the link below.
Along with an increase in education, the Dalits are also seeing spectacular growth in the church. The Good Shepherd Community Church, an OM partner, is planting at least one church per day in India right now. Dalits are hearing about a God who loves everyone and equips them to be a priesthood of believers. God’s Word is powerful and encouraging among those considered “the least of these.”
Thanks for your continued prayers and support for these ground-breaking movements among the Dalit.
