Teaching French

Islam is the fastest growing religion in France. Some Muslims are nationals but many are immigrants from North Africa and the Middle East. Very few of these immigrants have ever met a Christian, much less heard the gospel.

Lisa moved to France after taking a short-term trip there while she was in school. She and a few other missionaries have a heart to reach immigrants, particularly women. Many of the women feel lost here because they cannot perform basic tasks like grocery shopping, writing checks or attending parent-teacher meetings. They don't know French, but Lisa and her friends are working to change this by teaching French for free.

Baya is one of Lisa's students from North Africa. When Lisa first met with her, she recalls "I had to cover up parts of the words to break down the syllables." Now Baya is reading and communicating in French beautifully. Lisa teaches French by sharing Bible stories, and Baya gains a deeper understanding of who God is. Baya asks challenging questions that show she thinks deeply about the Bible and Jesus.

Through teaching French, Lisa and her team build deep friendships with the women. The immigrant women not only gain valuable life skills in the language, equipping them for life in France, but they also hear the gospel, perhaps for the first time.

Please continue to pray for Lisa and her team, as well as the women who have become their friends.
