Mobile Book Shop

boy reading book on Logos Hope

Part of the original vision of the OM Ships ministry was literature distribution, taking books and Bibles to those who would otherwise have no access to these materials. This mobile book shop has always been a draw for ship visitors. On Logos Hope, the bookstore is air conditioned and has wide aisles for shopping. But that is not why locals show up here. They are looking for school books, or how-to books, stories for their kids, or Bibles. Many get their first Bible aboard the ship. During lulls between crowds, store workers get time with their readers to talk or answer questions. For crewmember Emma Magnusson, that’s the best part. “That is why we are here,” she says. “I like to connect with people.”

One recent publication is connecting with visitors of all ages. Meant for kids, the illustrated book The Most Important Story Ever Told is part of the free literature given to each guest of Logos Hope. Tens of millions of copies have been given since the early 90’s. Ships member Mark Knight says, “What has been lovely is that the parents of the kids want it as well; the parents read it to the kids so the whole family gets to hear the story.”

George Verwer, founder of OM, continues to keep his original vision alive through his current ministry, called simply, “Special Projects”. A gift to Special Projects allows OM teams to give books like this one to people all over the world. You can give through the link below.

Continue praying for the book ministry of the ship, that many will be moved and changed by what they read.
