World Cup Church
The town drunkard gave his life to Jesus there and is now a changed man. Makwati Community Church in Zambia has seen many more come to faith since its unusual beginning. It started when OM workers pitched a tent outside for people to watch World Cup soccer matches on a big screen. After the tournament, the tent was given back to the owner, but people still wanted fellowship and to hear more of the gospel.
They started on the dusty open soccer field, praying and worshipping God. People joined and committed themselves to following Jesus, in spite of meeting outside. Since then, community leadership has given a plot of land for a building to serve as a community school during the week and a church on Sundays, and for sporting events on weekends and holidays. They are also considering hosting development projects like gardening, carpentry, and sewing to help sustain the church and school, giving hope to the community. Right now, there are about 200 kids without access to school in the community and this new partnership could solve that.
Pray for Makwati Community Church, the church planted as a result of these World Cup gatherings. Praise God for this new fellowship and for the new believers. Ask God to supply what is needed for the new church and school.
