Guatemala is in Central America, bordering Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. All of Guatemala’s major cities are situated in the southern half of the country— the nation’s capital of Guatemala City, Quetzaltenango and Escuintla. The diverse history and natural beauty of the land have created a country rich in interesting and scenic sites. The prominent religions in Guatemala are Roman Catholic, Protestant and indigenous Mayan beliefs.
OM focuses efforts in several different areas in Guatemala. First, we have Project Rescue. In this day-care-center-like ministry, we help around 45 children twice a week with food, tutoring, teaching values and mentoring. Also, the mothers of the children receive guidance and support in different areas of their lives.
Next, we have medical brigades. Throughout the year, the team goes out with foreign and local doctors to bless poor communities with free medical attention and medicine.
We also do school visits. Our team does programs in local schools with the goal to teach the children Christian values and to share about Jesus.
OM in Guatemala also focuses our efforts on mobilizing the Guatemalan church to world missions. By visiting local churches, we seek to bring missions awareness to their members and to mobilize those Christians whom God has called to serve.
Thank You for the amazingly rich and distinctive culture and history of Guatemala. Thank You for the on-going work in the areas of social help, evangelistic outreach and discipleship training. We pray that these programs will continue to bring Your love to the people of Guatemala and prepare them to go into the world to spread Your gospel.
