Societies in this region are pluralistic, multilingual and multiethnic. They are overcrowded with high levels of poverty and malnutrition.
The work here focuses on the areas of education, healthcare, economic empowerment, women's empowerment, anti-human trafficking and literature.
OM began working in this region in the 1960s, driving overland from Europe. OM’s international workers came alongside national Christians to present the good news about Jesus in a loving way to those who did not yet know the living God. Over the years, as the work developed, the national believers gained valuable experience and developed strong ministry skills. Gradually the international workers handed over the work to the nationals.
